The Summer Health Internship Program (SHIP) is now recruiting young people ages 17 to 24.
BQLI is taking part in a citywide effort to expose young people to careers in healthcare in collaboration with Bronx-Westchester AHEC and Manhattan-Staten Island AHEC.
All three organizations have aligned recruitment this year as we continue our partnership with CommonPoint Queens, a local nonprofit known for its efforts in workforce development.
SHIP participants from all three AHECs will be co-enrolled in the city’s well-regarded Ladders 4 Leaders program operated by CommonPoint. Ladders 4 Leaders will pay participants $16 an hour for 25 hours of work each week for a total of six weeks.
In addition, BQLI is leveraging part of a one-year Department of Health grant to provide six online courses that SHIP participants will complete as part of their training this summer. The courses include topics such as professionalism in health care, patient safety and HIPPA.
SHIP participants will work at their internship site for three days a week, participate in one day of didactic training at BQLI, and work from home on their online coursework one day each week.
